HELLO WORLD!!!
I must say i that i have never felt as disconnected to the world as i have felt in the last few days. For thoughs of you who dont know the Dominican has just suffered a tropical storm. For some areas that means minor inconvenience due to large amounts of rain. In other areas it means desrtuction as mud slides down the mountains to cover little towns. There has been alot of flooding here and during the storm the army came and exacuated a few of the slum areas that are below water level here in San Juan. We werent allowed to leave during the night to go and help but our leader Miguel went to coax people out of there homes and to the shelter.
Its a really hard thing for these people to leave there homes because the trend is for young people and others to destroy property and steal whatever possible. Most of the residents would rather stay and face the possibility of death than leave their “possesions” for someone to steal. But everyone did evacuate and were sheltered.
We also had guests during the storm. Our friend Ronnies family came and stayed with us. We were very blessed to have them. The day after the major flooding occured we went down to the shelter to see if there was anything we could do. The Army protected, Red Cross fed people, we honeslty went to entertain people. They were just bored and sad so that was the mission. Half way through transportation (or the garbage trucks) showed up to cart the refugees and everything they brought with them (beds, pots, pans chickens) back to their homes.
I met a girl that day named Sylvia, she is 19 really pretty lives in Guatchupita (the poorest area) and has two little girls. Ages 4 and 2. This girl is going to play a part in this year for me. i dont know how or why but something is going to happen. Pray for Sylvia and her girls, i dont know anything beyond that.
Thankyou for your prayers we have just recieved power for the first time since Sunday. We have felt your prayers!!!!

Yea! God provides…what a blessing! I am so proud of you for seeing the need and doing something about it. Isn’t it neat how God brings people into our lives in the oddest situations? I know God is going to use you in amazing ways in the lives of Sylvia and her girls. I love you girl and cant wait to hear all that he does! Keep it up!
Love,
Caroline 🙂
