Welcome to DR celerations,
This past week we (the team) celebrated Thanksgiving! I
guess it really isn't the DR celebration because the rest of the DR is not
celebrating America's liberation from England and the pilgrims sweet little
dinner with the Indians where the shared small pox, tobacco and guns. Actually
history seems like a repeat here, Christopher Columbus found the Dominican
previous to America.
But anyways as is the
traditional way we celebrated by stuffing our faces full of our favorite dishes
arroz y guandule, stuffing (thankyou tropical sun for drying out the bread),
Dominican pollo (turkey here is over 50 dollars for a tiny little one), rolls
and potatoes. It was very good. I even made a chocolate pudding pie (i brought
the mix from home) and Kristen found pumpkin filling at the capitol and made a
pumpkin pie.
That
morning we had run to the stadium and played American football. (It's
very different) and soccer. After we played games and made Christmas
decorations. We started our own little fun traditions and it was great. Here is
a picture of the entire team by the fake Christmas tree. (Okay i dont mean to
be bitter but fake trees!!!! UGLY)
The next
day we worked in Guatchupita making a floor for a friend of ours and after that
a surprise trip to the beach. We hadnt gone anywhere for fun, just fun... So
our leaders took us to the beach. It was really pretty, but it didn't have any
sand just rocks. Oh and it wasn't really a swimming beach there were huge rocks
in the water that you couldn't pass to get out deep. But i did get to snorkel and
see fish and sea urchins. Then as fishermen came with their boats
and a local lady fried up fresh fish and tostones. It was the best fish that i
have ever had. Okay, not much
exciting is happening, but I'm sure something will happen soon. So keep posted.
Lov you all,
emily
