Hello!

Happy Easter! What a
fun day to celebrate. Let me tell you a little of how Easter is celebrated here
in the DR. The day starts with lots of sleeping. This is only broken by the
terribly cold shower time. Then you dress each child up for a very pretty day
of Easter. Really not much happens, The Passion of the Christ is played
continually on every station for a few days. Biblical knowledge is not exactly
abounding here and a lot of people do not know what Easter is all about.
Because of the lack of knowledge I think a lot of younger people are more
inclined to drink as a celebration.

In Guatchupita we had an awesome celebration. About fifteen
of us got together and played games. A sort of egg hunt, egg on a spoon race
and a paper airplane competition. All were modified to the culture and it ended
up being a lot of fun.

I also went to the mountains this week with Olga and spent
some time up there with her family. That was incredible and I really enjoyed
it. They were so funny and I learned so much about Mountain culture that I had
not known.
For example: if a girl in the mountains sticks out her tongue that
means she likes something
you can pee anywhere
bathing is not a private matter by any means.

It was really incredible. I really appreciate her family for
letting me stay and talking to me the entire time. I don’t think I ever had a
moment that someone was not shaking my hand or asking me when I was going to
come harvest crops with them.

Much love and many blessings,

Emily
