What is it about Grandparents?
How can these older people that we do not even live with spark such an intense love within us?
I just received a bunch of letters from the capitol and every one of them was from a grandparent. Everyone. I am so blessed to have Grandparents that spur me on at every moment, encouraging, loving and yes donating to! The first day that I left Michigan for the Dominican the first two people to jump up to see me off were my grandmothers.
I bring this up because as different as the Dominican Republic is Grandparents or Abuelos have the same affect on people, old and young. There is a sort of respect and awe for these people that have walked through life with us and can remember our first steps. The most genuine love that I see demonstrated for children and people in general is by grandparents. I have meet grandmothers here from ages 25 to 89. And they have in common a distinct beauty that only comes when you are so full of love that it can do nothing but brim out of you into the ones around you.
So if you are a Grandparent in any culture tonight my hat is off to you and the love that you consistently display. I do not know what the world would be without you!
And for my Nana and Papa, Grandma and Grandpa (and GreatGrandpa) I love you so much and am blessed to be a part of you heritage. Te Amo!
